Incubator Updates

January 19th, 2009 ·

I’ve been terrible at updating the blog here, but I don’t want to give the impression that things are dead inside the Incubator.

Quite to the contrary!

The last several months have been very exciting, as we’ve added new companies, continued Free Lunch Fridays with excellent guest, and even celebrated major milestones of some of our residents. Here’s a breif recap of the last few months:

Since the Fall, we’ve added several companies to the Incubator, like Profista, Voice123, (working on LetMeGo), and Varud. We’re also excited that Ro Gupta — the new VP of Business Development at Disqus — will be taking up residence here and that the Social Bomb team will be growing into additional space. The Incubator is full of hustle and bustle! Come join us.

Free Lunch Fridays is still the main reason most of us come to work on Fridays. Since our first update, we’ve enjoyed talks from Dennis Crowley, Mark LaRosa of QuotaCrush, Franklin Madison of ITAC, Aly Campbell of AMP3, Aaron Cohen, and John Katzman of 2tor (also an Incubator resident), who reminded us to read these great articles about “Entrepreneurial Terror.”

Lastly, I’d like to give a special shout-out to our resident companies who have had major milestones. Comixology launched its iPhone application in November, Social Bomb got its first game into private beta in December, PerformLine launched its transparency platform, and Angelsoft (a sister company to the incubator) released version 3.4 of its software.

That’s it for now! I promise more frequent updates in the coming weeks!

Free Lunch Fridays

September 22nd, 2008 ·

One of the cooler things about work at the Incubator here is what we call “Free Lunch Fridays.”

Nearly every Friday, we provide lunch to our residents and plan some sort of programming.

This past week, Lori Smith of Goodwin Proctor (and counsel to Rose Tech Ventures), came by to take legal questions regarding starting up and raising money.

Two weeks ago, David S. Rose (the man upstairs :) took questions and talked about the history of raising money and of Angel investing.

The week before that, we had an even more informal lunch, where residents introduced themselves and took questions about each others’ startups.

This is the kind of incubation that goes on here. We feel like the more we can cram a bunch of smart people doing interesting things into one space, the more awesomeness everyone will produce.

What’s up next for Free Lunch Fridays? Who knows.

If you have a suggestion or would like to present to our residents (no pitches!!!), let us know on the contact page.

Coverage in TheDeal.com’s Tech Confidential

July 16th, 2008 ·

Last week, Tech Confidential blogger Mary Kathleen Flynn posted this great video featuring The Incubator at Rose Tech Ventures, David Rose, and a few of our residents, like Alex Baydin of PerformLine and Josh Green of Panjiva.

It was great fun to show off the space and have her here!
